Westgate SuperContest Week 1 Recap

The start of the NFL season also brings us the start of the Westgate Las Vegas SuperContest.  We are finally back and getting our 1st glimpse of the SuperContest entry make up.  The SuperContest, put on by the world's largest sportsbook, The Westgate Superbook, brings together the worlds best NFL handicappers.  There is a $1,500 cost for an entry, which allows you to pick 5 NFL games against the spread each week.  This year, the top 100 entries will get paid, with the winner getting a little more that $1.4M and 100th place getting about $2,000.  The ProMathletics' entry has finished in the top 100 out of about 2,500-2,800 the last two years.  This year, there are 3,123 entries.  The good news is 19 entries failed to make picks this week, so we are that much closer to the title.

Overall, the contest had a winning week, even considering the 19 entries that did not make picks.  The field averaged 2.77 points per entry, putting the contest at 55% for week one.  The consensus picks (Cin, LAR, Min, Bal, Hou) went 4-1 and 65 entries went 5-0.

The ProMathletics team was so confident in our models that we funded 18 entries in the contest.  Our picks for the week were Pit, NYG, Mia, TB, and Phi.  We went 3-2, due to the complete collapse we witnessed in Cleveland.

You can see the dispersion of all the entries below.  3-2 was the most common entry result.  This is only week one, but expect that average to drop a bit as more games are played and we get more data points.
