Wednesday Night MACtion

Ohio Bobcats (-4.5) @ Miami Redhawks

Needless to say, there is no love lost between these two long-standing rivals. They’ve been playing “The Battle of the Bricks” since 1908 (actually they came up with the name in the early 2000s, but the schools first played then). Tonight’s battle is a tale of two seasons. The Bobcats have their eyes on a MAC East title and showdown with Buffalo next week and the Redhawks are just trying to get bowl eligible. Does Ohio have enough in the tank to take a Wednesday night road MACtion game by more than a TD though?

Yes, the answer is yes.  The good news about tonight’s matchup, outside of a big Ohio victory, is we get to see some stellar QB play. On Ohio’s side, Nathan Rourke has been dicing cats up the last three weeks, both on the ground and through the air. He has been responsible for 13 TDs in the last 3 games and has been extremely efficient in doing so. Meanwhile, Miami’s QB, Gus Ragland hasn’t been too bad himself. He is coming off two straight 300 yard performances and looking forward to facing the 116th ranked passing defense in the country. However, the Bobcats haven’t given up more than 14 points in four weeks and only gave up 145 passing yards to NIU in early October. The Bobcats will do more than enough on offense to combat any big plays Ragland makes and take this one by at least a TD.

Toledo Rockets @ Northern Illinois Huskies (-3.5)

The numbers say this is a tossup. Toledo is again without starting QB Mitch Guadagni, which was not an issue against a weak Ball St team, but replacement Eli Peters still threw 4 INTs and the Huskies lead the MAC in basically every defensive category. This should be a low scoring affair. NIU hasn’t allowed a 100 yard rusher in the last 3 games.  If the Huskies can slow the game down and get a couple turnovers, they should have enough in the offensive tank to get this cover.  We are certainly not as confident in this battle, but as far as MACtion on a Wednesday night, feel free to put a few entertainment units on the Huskies tonight.
