Promathletics Pick – No Bet
Wsh – Max Scherzer (R)
Nym – Jacob DeGrom (R)
We are giving you back to back free write-ups as we have a Wednesday night game featuring two aces. Max Scherzer will take the mound for the Nationals and Jacob DeGrom for the Mets. Both teams find themselves at the bottom of the NL East but still in the hunt. The Mets had loss 6 straight after they were swept last weekend in Miami but have taken the last two games against the Nats and are looking for the sweep of their own.
Scherzer finds himself 2-5 with a 3.72 era. Not the best start for the former Cy young winner, but some bad luck and a poor bullpen have resulted in the slow start. Max is striking out about 12 batters per game and a 2.96 SIERA. He has a very high .363 BABIP and the Nationals bullpen is one of the worse with a -.3 WAR. The offense isn’t the best, as a team they have a 92 wRC+ and against righties its even worse at 83. They are also top 10 in striking out per game at 25.1%.
Jacob DeGrom has very similar stats to Scherzer. The righty is 3-5 with a 3.98 era. He has a 3.25 SIERA and is striking out 11.6/9. Jacob has been leaving the ball slightly up more than prior seasons and has led to a small increase in opposing hitters line drive %. Offensively the Mets are led by Rookie first baseman, Peter Alonso. Alonso has 15 home runs this year as he hit a walk off last night. The team has an average 100 wRC+.
We would like to lean with the Mets in this game, but it is tough to go against Scherzer in a sweep situation. Our model has this priced at NYM -108 and the market has it priced at -112. So, no value to be had. Our recommendation is to buy our $8/weekly subscription, cash those winners, and sit back and watch a great pitching matchup in New York.
