Market Line – Hou -105

Promathletics Lean – Cubs -105

Starting Pitchers:

Cubs – (R) Kyle Hendricks

Astros – (L) Wade Miley

Wednesday night baseball gives us the last game of a 3 games series between the NL Central’s best team, Chicago Cubs, and the AL Central’s best team, the Houston Astros. The Astros are going for the 3-game sweep as they have won the first two games. The Cubbies have loss 5 of their last 6 games and look to get a win streak going tonight.

The cubs will throw their crafty righthander, Kyle Hendricks. Hendricks who struggled earlier in the season has thrown well of late. He is 4-4 with a 3.34 era and 4.08 SIERA. Hendrick’s advance stats are basically inline with his historical numbers, only thing that he can clean up is his LOB%, which sits at 67.6% which historically sits in the low 70%. Offensively the Cubs are one of the best in the league. As a team they have a 113 wRC+ and their run production only drops to 107 versus lefties. The Catcher, Willson Contreras, leads the team with a 156 wRC+ and has 12 home runs on the year. Khris Bryant has missed a couple of games and is questionable tonight.

The home team will throw out their veteran southpaw, Wade Miley. Miley who came over from the Brewers in the off season has been a great addition to an already dominate pitching staff. Miley is 5-2 with a 3.32 era. His SIERA sits at 4.56 and has been lucky with a .258 BABIP. Houston has the best run producing team in the league with a 127 wRC+, but injuries are starting to pile up for them. Both George Springer and Jose Altuve are on the 10-day IL, and Carlos Correa is DTD with a rib injury. Alex Bregman has been carrying this team with a 159 wRC+ and 17 home runs.

Our models match the current market price. We can not make this a valued play but for entertainment purposes we will lean the Cubs. Miley who walks 3 batter per game will give the Cubs their opportunities to score some runs.  The Astros are beat up and we like the Cubs on the opposite end of a sweep.
