NYY – (L) James Paxton
The NBA finals pushed Monday night baseball to tonight on ESPN. The fans of New York get two games today as the series opener yesterday between the Mets and the Yankees was rained out and they will play a double header today. The home team, Yankees, look to get back to winning as they have loss 5 of their last 7 games. The Mets on the other hand took 2 of 3 versus the Rockies over the weekend and look to make a push in the NL east where they currently sit 3rd.
In game 2 the Mets will throw out 36-year-old, Jason Vargas. The Southpaw is 2-3 with a 3.57era through 45 innings. Don’t be fooled by the mid-3 ERA, an 80% LOB rate is covering up a 5.05 SIERA. The Met’s offense has been pretty good so far this year. They have a 102 wRC+ and that increases to 112 versus lefties. Peter Alonso is leading the team in home runs with 21 and RBIs, 46.
The Yanks will throw out their Ace, James Paxton. Paxton a lefty is the opposite of Vargas when it comes to speed. While Vargas sits in the Mid-80s, Paxton sits in the upper-90s. He is 3-2 with a 3.11era. A slight increase in SIERA, 3.52, and is averaging 12k/9. The Yankee offense has been above average with a 106 wRC+. However, the concern is an 82 wRC+ versus lefties.
We love Paxton on the bump but the Yankees bats vs. lefties is concerning. We can’t give this a full tilt wager but 100% lean Yanks -190. It is expensive but feel like it’s still at a small discount. If you really want to start making some money, click here. Our results below speak for themselves.
