With the NBA finals officially over, ESPN is back with its Monday night baseball coverage. Tonight’s game takes us to the west coast as one of the best teams in baseball, LAD, take on one of the worst teams, SF. The Giants have shown some life of late as they have won 4 of their last 5 games and took 2 of 3 from the Brewers this past weekend. The Dodgers just keep winning as they took 3 of 4 from the Cubs over the weekend.
Tyler Beede will take the mound tonight for the Giants. Beede has thrown 22 innings and has an 8.06 era. He is striking out 10.5 batters per game but unfortunately walking 6.85. The SF offense has a 76 wRC+, it increases to 79 versus righties, and improves to 96 against righties on the road. The reemergence of Pablo Sandoval has been the one bright spot this year. The Panda is hitting .287 with 9 homeruns.
The Dodgers will throw right hander, Kenta Maeda. Maeda who was back and forth from the bullpen last year has an impressive 7-3 record and a 3.89 era through 13 starts this year. This team can hit! As a team they have a 112 wRC+. Their wRC+ versus righties is 116, at home it is 128, and against righties at home it is 133. They also lead the league in BB% at 10.2% (see Beede’s BB rate above). Cody Bellinger is making a case for NL MVP. He is hitting .355 with 23 homeruns.
The Dodgers are heavy favorites tonight as they should be. Our models think this should be about +/- 204 so we cannot warrant any true value one way or the other. We see this only as entertainment bet lean. The run line drops the juice significantly and with this Dodgers offense winning by 2 should not be hard.
