Monday Night Baseball- Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants
Monday Night Baseball
Colorado Rockies (40-37) @ San Francisco Giants (33-43)
Market Price – COL -116/+106
Promathletics Pick – Col -116
Col – (R) Jon Gray
SF – (L) Drew Pomeranz
Monday night baseball stays in the west coast back to back weeks as the Rockies head to San Fran to take on the Giants. The Rockies are coming off a 3-game sweep as they lost 3 straight to the Dodgers (3 walk-offs) and the Giants took 2 of 3 from the Diamondbacks over the weekend.
Jon Gray will toe the rubber for the Rockies. Gray is 7-5 with a 4.18 era on the year. When you talk about Colorado pitchers’ home/away splits are always the metric of discussion. Typically, a pitcher away stats will be significantly better then at home due to the Colorado altitude. Gray’s stats do not follow that logic. His career stats are better at home and this year is no different. He has a 3.47 era at home versus 4.67 on the road. However, don’t let this sway you in this match-up, this will be the second time facing the Giants on the road and the 1st outing he went 6 2/3 giving up 1 er and striking out 6. The Rockies have been below average in producing runs with a total of an 88 wRC+, but that does jump to 98 when facing lefties.
The Giants will throw their 6’6 southpaw, Drew Pomeranz. Pomeranz is 2-7 with a 7.09 era. He has had some bad luck with a .359 BABIP and has a SIERA of 4.68 which is a better representation of how he has pitched this year. He has given up 42 earned runs and half have been on the road in 3 outings. The concern will not be with Pomeranz but with the Giants offense. They are last in the league with a 74 wRC+.
We think both pitchers will have quality starts but we think the Rockies offense will prevail in the end. This is a true Greenzone valued game.
