The NBA regular season has come to a close. Since the change to the best of 7 format in 2003, we have rarely seen any big upsets in the the 1st round. The two series we are most excited about are the Portland Trail Blazers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder and Philadelphia 76ers vs. Brooklyn Nets.
We actually have the Blazers and the Thunder as the closest ranked teams playing each other, even though this is a 3/6 matchup. Portland is without center Jusuf Nurkic and was swept by OKC 4-0 during the regular season. While the Blazers most likely take one of the first two in Portland, the combination of Westbrook and George will prove to be too much for this shorthanded Blazers squad.
With the health of Joel Emiid in doubt, the 76ers may have more difficulty with the Nets than most expect. The young Nets will look to push pace and wear out the older Philly team. This should be a long series, perhaps even 7 games with Philly eeking out a trip to round two, but in the mean time, we'll find opportunities to take some covers from this pesky Nets club.
