College Basketball Super Tuesday- Mississippi vs. Kentucky Preview

College Basketball SEC Match-up

#22 Mississippi St (14-3) @ #8 Kentucky (14-3)

Location – Rupp Arena Lexington, Ky

Tip – 7p

Line – UK -6.5

We got another big Super Tuesday match-up. This time we have two ranked SEC teams matching up.  #22 Mississippi St heads to Rupp Arena in Lexington Kentucky, to battle a smoking hot Kentucky Wildcat team. The Wildcats have won 7 of their last 8 games and have won 4 in a row. Last Saturday, they went on the road and beat a very good Auburn team 82-80. The Mississippi State Bulldogs are looking to start a winning streak of their own as they are coming off a win against Vanderbilt.

The Bulldogs are led by senior Quinndary Weatherspoon, who averages 16.6 pts/gm. They also have upperclassmen Lamar Peters, and Nick Weatherspoon who average 10+ pts/gm, and both shoot it 40%+ behind the arc.

The Wildcats are playing some very good basketball right now. Every year it can take Coach John Calipari’s teams some time to get it going as they basically have a new starting 5 due to talented Freshman leaving for the NBA. It is no different this year as he has another team full of talented Freshman. Keldon Johnson leads the team in scoring, averaging 15pts/gm. This young team has shown that they can crash the boards. They have +10 boards/gm margin over their opponents.

With any young team you are always prone to let down games. Kentucky will be facing #9 Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday at home. Considering they are coming off a big away win and looking ahead to a big home game on Saturday with a team full of freshman, it could certainly open the opportunity for the Bulldogs to pull off the upset, or at least keep this a close game.

The line opened UK -8 and has moved to -6.5. Our models have this game UK -6. So not enough value for MSU to be a GreenZone. However, if you are looking for some Tuesday action, we would lean the Bulldogs at +6.5 or more. We see UK overlooking the Bulldogs and the Bulldog’s experience taking advantage of that and keeping this game close.
